…Orpheus in the Underworld
2010 - We are delighted to announce that Martin will return to Central City Opera, Colorado, USA in the summer of 2010 to conduct a Production of Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld. LA TRAVIATA/CENTRAL CITY OPERA
The opera House then filled with the delicate Prelude
under the practised baton of Martin André in his CCO debut. André, well-known for his interpretations of 19th-century repertoire, held each slow, sustained passage of the Introduction with supreme sensitivity. Consistent in transferring musical restraint and emotional sympathy to convey the heartrending story of a love-struck, Parisian courtesan who dies of consumption, André’s artistic sophistication carried over to the stellar trio of singers on stage.

It sounds great. Martin André's conducting is fierily hard-edged, reminding us that Verdi never intended this score to be safe or pretty.
